SideroTec-Hisens™

In nature siderophores are generated in the nanomolar range making direct detection difficult with the need for amplification through microbial culture or using more complex and time-consuming analytical techniques.

Detection of siderophores in the low nanomolar range is now possible with the SideroTec-HiSens™ assay. Using a fluorescent based probe, siderophores can now be directly detected in either environmental or biological samples in less than 15 minutes.

Where to use
SideroTec-Hisens™

The SideroTec-HiSens™ is a single step microplate assay requiring 100µl of sample, 100µl of ready-to-use reagent and 10-minute incubation at 370C. Samples analysed to date include detection of siderophores in:

  • Water samples
  • Early-stage culture supernatant (6 – 9 hours)
  • 96 well microbial inhibition assays
  • Detection of siderophores in an insect infection model
  • Iron chelation potential of novel iron chelators
  • Siderophore detection in a range of organic solvents with no interference
